The History
The Great Fire of July 14, 1900, is the defining event of downtown Prescott's history. The fire began in the O.K. Lodging House on South Montezuma Street, spread to the neighboring Scopel Hotel, and raced north through the wooden buildings along Whiskey Row. Its exact cause was never confirmed.
An entire block of saloons, hotels, and businesses was destroyed. The story of that night is inseparable from Old Firehouse Plaza, where the firefighters who battled the blaze were stationed.
The fire reshaped Prescott's downtown, forcing a rebuild in brick and stone that defines Whiskey Row today.
The Haunting
The plaza sits on ground that witnessed one of Prescott's most violent nights. Activity reported here connects to the Great Fire and the people who were in these buildings when it started.
